A public meeting takes place tomorrow to discuss fears of delays chaos for lorries entering Dover following Brexit.

Campaigners fear continual slow-moving traffic jams through longer customs checks if there are no alternative arrangements after the UK leaves the EU.

The meeting is organised by EU: Thinking Deal + Dover, a group campaigning to try to prevent ill-effects locally after Britain's departure next March.

It will be at St Mary's Parish Centre in Church Street, Dover, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The event will include two short documentary videos, a talk by a spokesman for the Border Force officers' trade union PCS and a question and answer session.

A spokesman for EU: Thinking said: "We believe nobody in the Dover district wants to see Operation Stack problems multiply so that we have pollution and hygiene problems."

The group has set up an online petition calling on Kent County Council and Dover District Council to hold a public consultation.

They want this done by February so local people can say what they think should be done to protect their communities.

The petition is at change.org/p/protect-dover-district-communities-from-customs-checks-traffic-chaos-in-2019-2020.
