Police are investigating two diving deaths less than 24 hours apart near Dover.

The first incident took place about 3pm on Friday involving a man in his 60s from America.

Officers were called to Ramsgate Lifeboat Station after he had reportedly collapsed following a dive.

The man was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

A second very similar incident occurred less than 24 hours later at about 11am on Saturday.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Crosswall Quay in Dover following reports a man, who was in his 40s and from France, had collapsed following a dive.

The Coastguard Helicopter from Lydd also attended with the winchman travelling on board the vessel to assist the casualty.

The man was airlifted to the William Harvey Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police is involved in a multi-agency enquiry to establish the circumstances of both incidents and will be compiling reports for the coroner.”
