The traffic control system Dover TAP was in place this afternoon.

A notice from Kent County Council's highways department, given at 1.14pm, said the scheme was on the port-bound A20 at Aycliffe.

It said it had been put in place due to heavy freight volumes.

The statement said: "This is to prevent port-bound traffic from disrupting the local road network and the A20 through Dover town."

At about 5.30pm, KCC highways said the traffic management scheme had been stood down.

The Dover Traffic Access Protocol is regularly brought in to prevent clog-ups in the centre of Dover.

While it is in force speed limits are reduced to 40mph.
