Range Rover gets trapped on Dover beach

A Range Rover became stuck on the beach and trapped in the sea before falling victim to the incoming tide.

The car appears to have been attempting to tow a boat up Dover beach, opposite Waterloo Crescent, before getting stuck in the shingle.

A passerby, who witnessed the driver trying to escape the tide, said: “I wasn’t there a long time but they were trying to hitch-up a rope to the vehicle,

“But because the vehicle was sunken down in the shingle it couldn’t connect. As I was leaving another towing vehicle turned up.”

Pictures from Tuesday show the vehicle attempting to free itself from the waves.

It appears police cordoned off a section of the beach following the incident.

Despite staying in the water long into the night, the Range Rover has now been recovered.

This is not the first time this has happened on one of Kent's beaches.

In 2021 a VW Golf was completely submerged in Whitstable and later that year a Lexus became trapped in the same Dover spot.

Another resident who spotted the struggling 4x4 said: “I was walking the dog, the tide was low but on its way in and it seemed like the Range Rover reversed onto the shingle at the bottom of the slipway and got stuck.”

While one social media user joked: “Can't park there mate...”
