Teenage cancer sufferer Kelly Turner has passed all her GCSEs.

Kelly, 17, had been thrown off course from her studies last year after she had been diagnosed with a rare form of the illness.

But now, while being kept alive through chemotherapy, she has achieved 10 GCSE passes at St Edmund’s RC School in Dover.

These include Engllsh and maths and two A*to B grades.

She said: “I am very happy with the additional science grade of A, which will really help with my biology A level next year.

“I’m also very happy with my A in religious studies.

“I’m really pleased with my results and I’m going to celebrate with my mum and dad.”

The teenager will go on to the Astor College sixth form to study her A levels.

She eventually wants to become a radiographer.

Kelly, of Dover, was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumours in October 2015 when she was given two years to live.

She has had a total 26 rounds of chemotherapy but she needs specialist surgery, radiotherapy and immunotherapy in America.

A school spokesman said: “Considering everything that Kelly is going through, these are phenomenal results. She is an inspiration to all.”

There is a continuing fundraising campaign to raise the £1 million needed for all this treatment in New York.

This weekend's Dover Festival, incorporating the Dover Music Festival, will help raise money for Kelly.

Details of other fundraising efforts for Kelly, and how to help, can be seen on the Kelly Turner Fundraising Facebook page.

Further exam success stories for pupils in all Dover district schools will appear in next week's Dover and East Kent Mercuries.
