A company has been fined £5,000 after being found guilty of fly-tipping.

Waste, including wood, glass, plastics, carpet, unit panels, black bags, cardboard, plastic tubing, insulation foam, and waste food and wrapping was found dumped in Denton.

Diligent Developments Limited was found guilty of the offence at Folkestone Magistrates Court on Monday.

It was also ordered to pay costs of £1,689 and a victim surcharge of £181, making a total bill of £6,870.

The court action was brought by Dover District Council after an incident of fly-tipping at Snode Hill was reported to it on August 28, 2019.

An environmental enforcement officer attended and the waste was linked to the company, of Bensham Grove, Thornton Heath, south London.

It was asked to attend an interview but did not do so, the council explained.

When no contact was received to a final letter the authority took the matter to court and the company was found guilty in its absence.

Cllr Nicholas Kenton, cabinet member for regulatory services said: “Fly-tipping is a significant blight on the local environment.

"It’s a source of pollution, and a potential danger to public health and a hazard to wildlife.

"We continue to work hard to tackle this important issue and to send out a clear message that we will not tolerate fly-tipping."

Kent Online has contacted the company to ask if it wishes to comment on the case.
