A “striking and unusual” ship has been spotted off the Kent coast.
The gigantic MPI Resolution, a wind turbine installation vessel, arrived in Dover yesterday afternoon.
It is the world's first purpose-built ship of its type.
It is believed to have docked here to take in some stores before moving on to the Walney Offshore Windfarms off the coast of Cumbria.
Images on the ship were shared on the Dover Strait Shipping Facebook page.
The post this afternoon said: “The vessel has now sailed and is currently making her way past my window!
“Local? Hopefully you will get to see her.”
This ship came into service in February 2004 as the Mayflower Resolution.
It has a gross tonnage of 14,857, a maximum height of 68.94 metres (226 ft 2 in) and an overall length of 130.5 metres (428ft 2in).
In 2009, MPI Resolution featured in the television series Mighty Ships.
It was regularly off the North Kent coast during its use for the Thanet Offshore Windfarm throughout 2009 and 2010.
