A distinctive claret helicopter landed at a race circuit as Princess Anne visited two sites in Kent.

The late Queen's daughter touched down at Lydden Hill, between Dover and Canterbury, during a trip to the county yesterday.

The Princess Royal was invited to a new housing development in Shepherdswell and a boat-naming service at Ramsgate Harbour.

The Shepherdswell event marked the opening of a 13-home estate in Coxhill called Carpenter's Yard.

Having landed just off Lydden Hill's new access road, the 74-year-old was joined at the site by The Bishop of Dover, the Right Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin.

Her Royal Highness is a patron of English Rural, an affordable housing association which is behind the scheme.

The development was built in July and includes a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses.

In the same afternoon, the Princess also visited Ramsgate to name the latest British-built pilot boat to join Estuary Services Limited's (ESL) fleet of six vessels.

She landed on the nearby Jackey Bakers sports ground before officially unveiling Estuary Elise.

ESL employs 43 people and has boats based at Ramsgate and Sheerness.

It was the second time The Princess Royal has visited Kent this year after she attended a centenary service at Canterbury Cathedral for the Benenden school near Cranbrook, which she went to in the 1960s, in March.
