An ultra modern restaurant, pool, bar and hotel complex made from shipping containers is to be dropped onto land at Dover Marina.
These pictures reveal what the scheme could look like if it is agreed at Dover's newly constructed harbour arm, called the Marina Curve.
Full planning permission is required from Dover District Council and two applications, which together make up one scheme, have been submitted.
Features will include:
- 90-bedroom hotel
- office space (412sqm with 58sqm terrace)
- Restaurant (415sqm with 245sqm terrace)
- Bar (187sqm with 90sqm terrace)
- Mixed use ‘lock up’ containers
- Pool with changing facilities and office/storage space
A mix of 25 jobs will be created, made up of 15 full time and 10 part time positions.
The land is kept by The Port of Dover which has been working with the developers throughout the design stages.
The scheme's planning statement says the area will become a "lively and well articulated space that will compliment the functions of the harbour and enhance the setting of the New Marina facility."
It caims it will "have a beneficial impact on the character and appearance of the area" and it takes existing plans for the area into account.
The most novel of which is for a cable car linking Dover Castle with the seafront and town.
A birds-eye view of the site shows the motel edged in blue.
The commercial areas and pool take up 0.23ha and are shown in pink while public open space is edged in yellow, incorporating the existing clocktower which is under renovation.
The first application (A) deals with the motel and the second (B) deals with the commercial areas which includes the pool.
They have been submitted to Dover District Council on behalf of The Electric Motel Company Ltd, Nick Desmond of Bride Hall Real Estate Partners and Clive Lynton of Concise Living.
