Vehicles are being kept waiting for over an hour to get in and out of the UK, after border control operations were put under strain at the port of Dover.

Passengers are queuing for between 60 and 90 minutes to board vessels leaving the Kent coast, and there have also been reports of delays as people attempt to come into the country.

P&O Ferries and Irish Ferries customers were said to have been affected by the traffic jams.

A spokesman for the Port of Dover said: "Dover TAP is currently active for freight traffic.

“Traffic is now flowing smoothly through the port following a temporary reduction in border capacity experienced earlier today.”

P&O Ferries have been contacted for comment. Irish Ferries declined to comment.
