Three more mobile CCTV cameras will be used across Dover district.

They will add to existing mobile cameras and complement the 56 fixed ones already in the area.

Dover District Council, which bought the equipment, will work within the local Community Safety Partnership to install them at hot spots, to provide extra reassurance to communities.

Live imagery will be continuously fed to the council’s recently updated CCTV control room, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The flexibility of these cameras allows the authority to install them quickly in areas where crime and anti-social behaviour are most prevalent.

If anyone sees anything worrying or suspicious, they are encouraged to report it. The CCTV control room can be contacted day and night.

Cllr Nigel Collor, portfolio holder for transport, licensing and community, and chairman of the Dover District Community Safety Partnership said “We welcome the addition of three more state of the art cameras, to help us protect the communities we serve.

"They will be invaluable for monitoring identified hotspots in the district and will offer added reassurance to residents by providing a safer environment for everyone.”

DDC has operated a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system since 1994. Cameras are strategically located around the town centres in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. The network is recorded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The council says that CCTV has proved to be a powerful weapon in the continuing fight against crime, particularly when integrated with other crime reduction methods such as retail radio-link systems.
