A road closed for seven-and-a-half hours due to a one-man protest has finally re-opened. The man has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A man appeared to have tied himself to the A2 Jubilee Way, above the Eastern Docks in Dover, having climbed over the railings.

He was standing next to banner which makes accusations against Kent Police.

The sign also said: "The Government has let them do this. Welcome to Russia."

National Highways late this afternoon tweeted: "The A2 Jubilee Way is now open in both directions between the A258 and the A20 near Dover.

Police had been at the scene through the day and it is understood the road had closed at about 9am and re-opened at about 4.30pm.

A police spokesman had said this morning: "Kent Police attended Jubilee Way, Dover following a report of concern for a man.

"Officers were called to the scene at 8.36am.

"The road has been closed and drivers are advised to follow diversions."

A Port of Dover spokesman had said during the closure: "The Port remains open so we advise the use of the A20 to travel to and from it. "
