A 28-year-old man appeared in court this afternoon charged with raping a 21-year-old woman.

The offence is alleged to have taken place in an access road off Malvern Road, Dover, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Modesto Jose Manuel, of Folkestone Road, Dover, was remanded in custody by magistrates at Folkestone. He is now due to appear before a judge at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, September 11.

Kent Police say the alleged victim comes from Hampshire.

A 35-year-old man arrested in connection with the alleged incident has been released without charge.
