Jellyfish stings and a shark attack were just some of the fantasy obstacles faced by one lockdown fundraiser who 'swam the Channel' in his bathtub.

Martin Hunt, 67, from St Margaret's Bay near Dover wanted to take on a light-hearted challenge to raise funds for a charity - many of which are suffering due to the coronavirus crisis.

He researched how long it would take to swim from England to France and set himself a similar task, which wouldn't impinge the stay at home rules.

Taking to his bathtub wearing just his trunks at 7am last Friday, he bathed for a whole seven hours.

He encountered genuine seaweed, a knitted jelly fish and a cardboard shark but stepped out onto his bath mat to tell the tale at 2pm.

His efforts not only left his with wrinkly toes but £715 in the bag for Hospice UK. It is almost quadruple his target.

He said: "Funding for charities has declined dramatically over the past few months, so this is why I wanted to do this.

"I wanted to do something light-hearted, something really silly."

The retired nurse has since shared video clips of the challenge on a Facebook page 'Martin swims the chanel in his bathtub' and he hopes people will continue to view them and donate.

He said: "Any donation to this worthy cause would be appreciated."
