A man who failed to carry the correct documentation for scrap metal he was transporting has been fined almost £1,000.

Jamie Thompson, 28, of Buenos Ayres, Margate, failed to produce transfer notes and a waste carrier licence after he was caught by an environmental crime team.

He was stopped when driving a white transit van with scrap metal in the back on two occasions.

The first was on August 20, 2021, and again days later on August 24 - this time on the A258 near Sandwich.

Dover District Council served three notices, requiring he produce a waste carrier licence and waste transfer notes for the contents, but when these were not provided by the set date, he was issued with Fixed Penalty Notices.

When these were not paid, DDC escalated the matter to court.

Appearing at Medway Magistrates Court on Friday, March 11, Thompson pleaded guilty to the two offences.

DDC insist that those involved in the transport of controlled waste have a responsibility to ensure that they have the correct licences and documentation for waste they are transporting.

Failure to do so is a criminal offence.

He was fined £250 per offence, with £150 costs and £75 victim surcharge, totalling £975.
