New details have been revealed of continued works and closures on the A2, which continue beyond the New Year.

There will be one weekend of normality after the month of nighttime shutdowns of the stretch between Dover Eastern Dock and Whitfield ends tomorrow.

But half that road will shut down for two nights again from next Monday, it has now been announced.

And there will be temporary traffic lights for more than three weeks in January.

The new restrictions have been announced by National Highways in an update published online yesterday.

A spokesman said: “As part of our work to repair and maintain the A2, we’ll soon be returning to finish repairs to the safety barriers and resurface Jubilee Way between the Duke of York’s and Eastern Docks roundabouts.

“At the same time, we’re going to carry out resurfacing between the Whitfield and Duke of York roundabouts to reduce the need for further closures in the future.

“This work is critical to maintaining and improving safety.”

The restrictions are as follows:

The last full night closure, from 8pm to 6am, ends tomorrow (Friday) on the A2 between Whitfield and the Eastern Docks. There had been weeknight closures during those times since November 13.

The A2 London-bound will be closed between the Duke of York's and Whitfield roundabouts, from 8pm to 6am next Moda and Tuesday.

There will be temporary traffic lights on the A2 between the Duke of York's and Whitfield roundabouts overnight, 8pm to 6am Monday to Saturday (inclusive), for work on safety barriers.

This is from Tuesday, January 2 until Saturday January 27.

During closures a signed diversion will be in place in both directions via the A256 and A2 so traffic can still come and go from the port.
