They only have to pay one charge for up to a 12-month supply of hormone replacement therapy, saving up to £205 a year.

Mrs Elphicke and Ms McCall, who heads the Menopause Revolution campaign, celebrated the improvements together in Parliament after the debate.

Mrs Elphicke said: “HRT transforms the lives of women going through the menopause. Making it cheaper and easier to get HRT is a revolutionary step forward for women’s health.

“I was delighted to celebrate the progress of the menopause revolution with Davina McCall. It’s so important to ensure there is proper support for women at every stage of their lives.”

Ms McCall caused a new wave of awareness on the issue on the Channel 4 documentary Davina McCall: Sex, Myths and Menopause on May 12.

There the TV presenter, 54, spoke frankly about her own experience.

Davina McCall became a household name as presenter for the Channel 4 reality show Big Brother from 2000 to 2010.

She has since presented programmes such as the documentary Long Lost Family and the music competition show The Masked Singer.
