An MP, whose constituency port sees daily arrivals of migrants, has hailed the Home Office's decision to impose a 14-day quarantine.

Dover and Deal's Natalie Elphicke has also welcomed talks with France aimed at increasing the number of migrants we return when it is decided they do not have valid cases to stay.

The news comes as another 14 migrants were intercepted yesterday (Wednesday) following a record day recorded over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Sine the outbreak of Covid-19, Mrs Elphicke has been campaigning for illegal entrants to be quarantined as well as for more of them to be returned to France.

She said: “I've been pressing Home Office ministers to quarantine anyone arriving here illegally for 14 days pending their return.

“It is welcome that the Home Secretary has listened and is taking robust action so that quarantine will now happen, and that talks with France about returning illegal entrants are also underway.

“Returns are so important - because these arrivals will only stop when traffickers and migrants alike know they won’t succeed.”
