NINETEEN elderly residents were led to safety from a nursing home in Dover today after fire broke out in a second floor lounge.

Fire crews were called to St Stephen's Nursing Home in Godwyne Road and arrived to find staff leading the residents from the home.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to gain access to the building where they tackled the blaze with a hose reel jet.

No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
