The first pictures of a raging bus fire have emerged as police continue to investigate the 'suspicious' incident.

Firefighters spent almost an hour tackling the blaze which happened in Mill Lane in Shepherdswell, near Dover at 3.50pm yesterday.

The images show fierce flames consuming the front of the vehicle, which is surrounded by black smoke.

It blocks the narrow lane as it burns - although firefighters brought it under control within 50 minutes.

Stagecoach say all passengers were safely evacuated by the driver and there were no injuries, but an internal investigation will be conducted.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach South East said: “We can confirm that a fire took place on one of our buses yesterday in Dover.

“All passengers were safely evacuated by the driver and there were no injuries.

“The safety of our passengers and staff is our first priority. We will assist the emergency services with their inquiries and will also carry out our own internal investigation.”

Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish how it began.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report of a bus on fire before 4pm on Friday, September 18.

"Officers attended to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service at the scene in Siberts Close, Shepherdswell near Dover.

"The cause of the fire is currently being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.
