A barbed wire 'stinger' found stretched across a road has launched a police investigation.

Officers were called at 12.30am after a motorist reported seeing the wire tied between a lamppost and barrier in Old Folkestone Road in Aycliffe, near Dover.

Police said the piece of wire had been untied by the caller and removed it to a parked maintenance van, where it is thought the wire had come from.
