The Port of Dover is providing assistance for Eurotunnel passengers experiencing delays after a shuttle train broke down yesterday.

Almost 400 passengers were evacuated because of a power failure.

Passengers are warned to expect delays of several hours all day after the France-bound train lost its connection to an overhead power line at 7.30am.

Ferry companies, P&O, MyFerryLink and DFDS Seaways are trying to create extra availability to help the traffic situation.

A Port of Dover spokesman said: "The port and its three major ferry customers are working hard to provide every assistance in getting Tunnel traffic across the Channel whilst Eurotunnel looks to resolve the issue of a broken down train in one of its tunnels.

"Passengers have been experiencing significant delays at Eurotunnel and the port is looking to maximise available capacity for the additional traffic whilst maintaining a first class service for customers already heading to Europe’s busiest ferry port."
