There are delays and cancellations to rail services after a train struck a tree amid the wet and windy weather.

All lines between Dover Priory and Canterbury East are currently blocked as the tree remains on the tracks.

Services will be terminated early at either Canterbury East or Faversham to turn around there.

Those who have bought tickets for the affected services can use them at no extra on the Stagecoach bus 15 between Canterbury and Dover. They can also use the Triangle Bus from Canterbury East to the bus station.

The company has also said passengers should expect the delays to last until 9.30pm as trains may be delayed, revised or cancelled.

"If you are at a station between Canterbury East and Dover Priory, please speak to staff or use the Help Point on the platform regarding onward travel," a spokesperson said.

"Please allow more time to reach your destination this evening and check online journey planners for up to date information."

An update issued at 9pm said: "The affected train is going to be split so that the rear four carriages can travel back to Canterbury East.

"All lines are still blocked between Canterbury East and Dover.

"Replacement buses have been sourced and are hoped to be onsite by 10pm."
