A flooded stretch of road became impassable this morning - with a Veolia truck forced to turn around due to the water level.

The area affected was Poulton Close, running into Coombe Road in Dover, which currently resembles a river rather than a road.

KentOnline reporter Sam Lennon came across the body of water while on another assignment.

He saw water pouring downhill from a hosepipe at Holmestone Road which was adding to the level.

While at the scene he also saw a Veolia rubbish lorry having to turn back, unable to cross the large puddle.

The workers said they were trying to collect rubbish from houses on the other side of the flooding.

It is not know how much of this has been caused by the water from the hose.

But until today there was regular and heavy rainfall in all but two days of this November, which in itself could put a strain on the drainage system.

Veolia are refuse collection contractors for Dover District Council.

A council spokesman said: "We can confirm that a refuse vehicle had to turn around due to this localised flooding.

"This affected collections to three properties. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and the crew will try again to reach these properties tomorrow or Friday."
