Dover TAP driving restrictions are back today, highways officials have warned.

Highways England posted the notice on their Twitter page today for all drivers heading to the Port of Dover.

Bosses have put it down to a large number of vehicles heading for the international gateway.

The tweet said: "If you're heading to #Dover on the #A20 this morning be aware that #OpTAP is now running due to large amount of freight traffic bound for @Port_of_Dover.

"If you're planning to use the port please allow extra time for your journey (@DFDSUKUpdates @POferriesupdate @PoD_travelnews)."

Highways England's Dover TAP (Traffic Assessment Project) is used with traffic lights to control the flow of lorries coming into the town at busy times.

It is usually from the the Roundhill Tunnel in Folkestone to Aycliffe and involves a 40mph speed limit for all traffic, when the speed limit is usually 70mph.

The 40mph limit had been in place constantly for two years until last July and now is only enforced at times when TAP is used.
