A public inquiry to consider the compulsory purchase of land in the St James’ and Russell Street area of Dover has continued today (Wednesday).
It is taking place at the district council offices, starting at 10am on both days.
It has been noted that the inquiry could take up to three days, but it is expected to conclude later today.
Seven witnesses from DDC and Bond City developers have given evidence.
Owner of County Hotel, Stelios Christodoulou, is the only objector to the order.
Susan Heywood has been appointed as the inspector by the Secretary of State for communities and local government and the Secretary of State for transport. She will hear from both Dover District Council and any objectors present. A decision will not be made, but a recommendation regarding the course of action will be passed to both ministers.
The compulsory purchase would be another step in the long-running saga of the plans to redevelop the derelict area in preparation for a new six-screen cinema, M&S Simply Food, Frankie and Benny’s restaurant and a pay and display car park.
