Warning from Network Rail of Dover and Folkstone trains affected by emergency engineering

An engineering problem that caused train delays has been solved.

Trains between Dover and Folkestone had been reduced to snail speeds last night (Wednesday) when a track defect had to be repaired.

The emergency engineering work is now done and services are back to normal today (Thursday).

A Network Rail spokesman said; “A track defect was discovered during a routine patrol on Tuesday between Abbotscliffe and Martello tunnels.

" Therefore, emergency works took place last night to fix the problem and a 10mph was imposed in the area which caused significant delays to trains.

"However, the work was successful and the speed restriction was removed this morning. We are not anticipating any further disruption as a result.”

Network Rail had first warned passengers of late night train delays yesterday morning and advised them to check running times with operators Southeastern.
