Controversial plans for a traveller site next to a main road are set to be approved – despite fears people will be left "wading through mud".
Eight static caravans will be erected on land in Waldershare, near Dover, if council bosses wave through the proposal tomorrow evening.
But three-quarters of residents who have given their views are against the scheme, which is set for land between the A256 and Sandwich Road.
They say it will create an isolated community, will be an overdevelopment and will create a poor living environment.
A total of 38 residents writing into Dover District Council are against the plan (74%), while 14 are in favour of it.
The application will be discussed by the authority's planning committee tomorrow night (Thursday).
It is to create eight pitches with static caravans on 1.88 acres of land north of Eastling Down Farm Cottages and east of Sandwich Road.
The application is by Frank Sykes of Trevor Menell Planning of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Resident Peter Knight, commenting on the council's planning portal, said: "Hardstanding is required. Brick, paving tarmac, etc, for each pitch.
"Every house has it, why not these?
"Perhaps the applicant doesn't mind his tenants wading through mud between buildings."
But those supporting the scheme say the site has good road access and is not on a floodplain.
Spencer Burns said: "[I've been] been driving past this piece of wasteland for ages and it's really good to see that some good use is being made of it.
"I think we should invite the travel community in with open arms."
Council planning officers are recommending approval of the scheme, saying plans had been amended so some objections, aired over the last 18 months, may have become out of date.
