The incident happened at 5.40pm on Sunday when the 46-year-old was walking towards the town centre along Barton Path, behind Barton School, when she was approached from behind by two men.

Something sharp was held against her neck while one of the men looked through her bag and stole her mobile phone.

They ran off towards Cherry Tree Avenue. The woman was left shaken but unhurt.

One of the offenders is described as a white man who spoke with a foreign accent, aged 20 to 28, 5ft 8in and was wearing a grey hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers. The other man was wearing a dark hooded top.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the Londis store or near the chip shop in Cherry Tree Avenue who saw the two men.

Ch Insp Tony Kofkin said: "Officers from the crime unit are following all inquiries and doing everything possible to bring these offenders to justice."
