The council has agreed to invest in a new play area in Aycliffe, just months after one was demolished in the estate.
Details of the proposals were discussed last night by Cllr Sue Chandler, DDC deputy leader and portfolio holder for housing and community.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Aycliffe Residents' Committee and the investment is subject to cabinet approval.
Cllr Chandler, said: “We know everyone was bitterly disappointed when the old play equipment had to be removed.
"We have been working hard to secure a new play area, and I will be making a recommendation to cabinet to fund this development once more details have been agreed and following further consultation with the community.”
Three sites have been identified for the development of a new play area, subject to community feedback on their preferred option and planning consent.
Cllr Chandler recognised the excellent community spirit that had built up since the former play equipment was removed.
She added: “We are committed to working with the community to help them realise other potential funding streams in addition to the council’s investment that will create a facility the whole community can be proud of.”
