A police chief who started his working days at Dover Police Station spent his last day with the force on patrol in the town.
Chief Superintendent Peter West began his 30 year career as a probationer in 1979.
On his last day, he accompanied town centre constable Ashley Price on patrol around the town.
Peter said he has fond memories of the teamwork and camaraderie he experienced at Dover before moving to Traffic Division in Ashford where he was able to pursue his interest in fast motors.
But it was his close affiliation with the town that drew him back for his last day.
“I lived in Whitfield for a time, I studied at Dover Technical College and often used to go to the banger racing at Coombe Valley.”
“I wanted to spend my last day on duty as a police officer at Dover, as it means I have come full circle, back to where I started from 30 years ago,” he said.
as a local commander in Adelaide.
He also says places like Dover and Folkestone were well placed to develop partnership working as, even before the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 made it a statutory requirement, the police and local authorities would work together and share information.
