Bid to set rough sleeper's beard alight

A TEENAGER has been accused of arson with intent to endanger life after an incident in which a man sleeping rough on Dover seafront was attacked.

Police arrested seven youths in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is alleged that an attempt was made to set light to the man's beard. When that failed, his sleeping bag was set alight.

Six of the seven youths were released without charge but a 16-year-old boy from the Folkestone area is accused of the alleged offence.

The incident happened in a seafront shelter where the 45-year-old man was asleep in his sleeping bag. The man managed to extinguish the flames and was unhurt.
