One of the youngest fundraisers for Kelly Turner is having his head shaved.

Tom Wiseman, 10, will turn himself bald at Kingsdown Village Hall between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday, October 16.

The youngster, from Walmer, explained: “I will be doing it at a fundraising tea party for Kelly. I am a bit nervous but I want to raise us much money as I can.”

His mother, Isobel Wiseman, said: “Tom recently helped with a bag pack for Kelly at Tesco in Whitfield, where he met her, and really wanted to do something more to help.

“He came up with the idea to do this completely on his own.

“We are very proud and would like to help him gain as much publicity and raise as much as possible.”

Tom, a pupil at Kingsdown and Ringwould Primary School, is also a keen tennis play and is part of the Deal A team.

Tom’s hair will be cut by hairdresser Sheila Moloney.

The head shave and tea party is being organised by family friend Sue Fyfe, who has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities and had her own head shaved to help breast cancer victims in 2014.

She had organised the Tesco bag pack and is an administrator on Kelly’s fundraising page.

Kelly has recently needed more chemotherapy, making her hair fall out but is now wearing a wig from the Little Princess Trust, which makes hairpieces for children with cancer.

The Mercury is backing a fundraising campaign, launched in March, to raise £1 million for Kelly to get specialist treatment in America.

She was diagnosed last October with desmoplastic small round cell tumour.

She has just 18 months to live unless she gets the surgery she needs at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

She has already had nine bouts of chemotherapy up to the summer and by late September needed more.
The Kelly Turner Fundraising Facebook page on Monday said so far £236,000 had been raised.
