DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a bridegroom and one of his guests were stabbed during a wedding reception.

It happened at the King’s Hall in London Road, Dover, on Saturday night, St Valentine’s Day.

Police were called at 11.25pm after some youths were involved in an argument with guests at the wedding reception.

One of the guests, a 28-year-old man from Folkestone, received a minor stab wound to his neck, and the bridegroom - a 29-year-old man - then got involved and received stab wounds in his neck and thigh.

A group of guests at the wedding allegedly ran after and assaulted the youth suspected of the stabbings.

The bridegroom and the youth were taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital where their injuries were described as non-life threatening.

The 28-year-old man was taken to the William Harvey Hospital where he received stitches for his neck wound.

A 17-year-old youth from Aylesham was arrested and charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Meanwhile an 18-year-old man from Dover and a 16-year-old local youth were also arrested and charged with possessing an offensive weapon. Both were released on police bail to answer before Folkestone Magistrates on Tuesday, February 24.
