Britain's fattest man Carl Thompson, from Dover, inundated with offers to help him lose weight

Dover’s Carl Thompson, who is dubbed Britain’s fattest man, has been inundated with offers to help him lose weight.

He was thrust into the national media spotlight after it was revealed his excessive binge eating had caused his weight to rocket to a colossal 65 stone.

Doctors say he could be faced with death if efforts are not made to shed at least 45 stone.

Mr Thompson, 33, of Maison Dieu Road, has been housebound for more than 12 months and aspires to get married and have children in the future.

He said: “Any professional opinion or other knowledge would be great. I’ve had a lot of that coming in anyway but the more the better.”

Mr Thompson has appealed for help to get down to his ideal of 20 stone, which he knows could take a few years.

He said he has always had a bad relationship with food, and even as a child, would sneak downstairs in the night and raid the kitchen cupboards in his childhood home in Lydden.

He said: “I was only about three or four and no one knew why I did it. I would just eat anything out of the cupboards.”

Nowadays he can consume a whole loaf of bread and a jar of jam as a snack and can eat a large pork pie in one sitting.

He lives alone and has carers come in and out twice a day. They visit in the morning to wash him and cook his meals and again in the evening.

He now hopes that all the exposure will mean he will get on the ladder to securing more help. He has been in a “vicious cycle” with St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, a centre for bariatric patients like Mr Thompson.

He explained he wants to go there for treatment and for a year now, has been liaising with the doctors and his GP with no positive outcome.

He said: “I finally got a phone call from one of the doctors two weeks before Christmas Day. The idea was to go to hospital and be there for about three years. That was my plan.”

Mr Thompson was told there wasn’t a place available for him. Most of the patients at St Richard’s undergo gastric band surgery to help them lose weight, but Mr Thompson has refused this surgery. He said he would prefer to lose the weight more naturally.

Carl was filmed live for ITV’s This Morning with doctor Dawn Harper.

Presenters Amanda Holden and Phillip Schofield introduced the item with a table full of food, which they said would feed a whole family for a week.

Dr Harper said the people who are supplying him with the high-calorie food are “killing him with kindness”.

She said that before the live showing that the pair had spoken about his relationship with food and that he needed psychological help dealing with it.

Dr Harper has also pledged to help him recover.

Dover personal wellness coach Clinton McTaggart, has also offered his services to help Mr Thompson lose weight.

He said: "He needs someone to talk to him and understand why he is that size. There may be some underlying issues.

"I used to remember him walking around the town and thinking I would like to help him, and now there is the opportunity."
