Work is progressing on plans for a cable car to connect the town to Dover Castle.
Support for a cable car in Dover has been highlighted in Dover District Council’s corporate plan for 2016-2020, and the council has revealed that interested parties are now developing a business case to take it forward.
A DDC spokesman said: “We, along with others, continue to recognise the opportunities that a cable car would bring to connect the castle to the town, and are working with a number of interested parties to develop the business case.
"Further information will be made available at the appropriate time as this work progresses.”
For many years the idea of a cable car has been discussed, and a £4 million bid to link the castle with the town centre and possibly Western Heights submitted in 2008.
CWA Design also submitted a graphic of what the cable car could look like over the town.
Back in 2008, the Mercury reported that English Heritage initially had reservations about installing it at the castle but was now in favour of considering the cable car station at the Admiralty Lookout point.
A feasibility study was expected to have been completed by 2010 but since then there has been nothing more revealed on the plans.
Now it looks as though amongst many developments in the town, the cable car could be one of them.
Neil McCollum, historic properties director, at English Heritage South East said: “We are broadly supportive of this idea, we think it’d be a great boost to the town, although we have yet to see any detailed plans which we’d need to do before commenting fully.”
