A car has fallen down a bank outside a village pub and is reportedly being held up precariously by a fence.

The incident happened at the Marquis at Alkham, on the Alkham Valley Road between Dover and Folkestone.

A motorist, who does not wish to be named said: "Nobody was in the car, but there were a lot of people stood around it in suits. It looked like there was an event going on."

A fire engine from Dover attended the scene and removed the silver Ford Mondeo within about 30 minutes.

Watch manager Paul Mellett said: "We got the Tirfor winch and secured it to the back of the lorry and winched it up and back onto the pub's main drive."

A spokeswoman from Kent Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called at 12.13pm.

"The car had rolled down the hill and hit a small fence. It was next to a main road and it was considered to be in a dangerous position."

It is understood the handbrake failed. The female driver was not inside when it happened,

The road remained open.
