Caring in the community will be highlighted during Carers’ Week between June 9-15.

Dover District Carers’ Support was set up in 2001 and provides support for carers who live in the district, currently offering its free services to around 700 people. The organisation provides telephone or face-to-face emotional support, a variety of carers’ support groups, information and advice, advocacy services, assistance with form-filling, and referrals to other sources of help.

DDCS manager Tricia Cole said: “We hope Carers’ Week will draw attention to these hard-working people that are often overlooked."

The week will recognise the efforts of the UK’s six million carers - people who have an unpaid responsibility to look after relatives or friends who are ill, frail, elderly, or who have physical disabilities, learning disabilities or mental health needs. This year the focus is the health and wellbeing of carers, who often concentrate completely on the person they care for and fail consider their own health.
