A chimney fire has damaged roof of house in Alkham Valley Road

A chimney fire caused serious damage to a house in the Alkham Valley Road last night.

The blaze broke out at 8.45pm, and three fire engines were at the scene by 9pm.

The flames could be seen from Hawkinge in Folkestone.

The property is called Johnson's Acres and has a hay barn adjacent to it.

The owner, named locally Linda Johnson and her husband got out of the house safely.

Their animals, two dogs and a horse were also evacuated in good time.

Half of the house's roof is completely damaged by the fire.

Fire crews were at the scene until the early hours of this morning.
