POLICE are cracking down on the illegal use of mini-motos and monkey bikes in Dover.

This monkey bike rider was caught on camera riding illegally on Barton Path.

It is against the law to ride monkey bikes, mini motos, quad bikes or go-peds on the road, or on public land.

Police say people using their bikes on public land, could be committing an offence under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, covering the anti-social use of vehicles.

Tony Phillips, a police community support officer, who regularly patrols Barton Path, said: “There is a serious problem with these types of bikes and if they are ridden along the footpath like this, there could soon be a serious accident.

“Another problem is that people selling kids these types of bikes are not giving them the information about where they can be ridden legally."

He added: "There is almost nowhere where they are legal.”
