A jack-knifed lorry caused major traffic problems for motorists heading for Dover on Saturday.
The lorry was travelling towards Dover on the A20 between Capel and Aycliffe when it hit the central reservation at around 6am.
The Polish driver was uninjured but the road was completely closed in both directions to enable essential repairs to be carried out, causing severe hold-ups.
One lane of the coastbound carriageway reopened at about 10.30am - but the London-bound stretch remained closed for much of the day.
Traffic was diverted along the old A20. Three fire crews and a chemical support unit were called to the scene following reports that chemicals were leaking from the vehicle. But firefighters discovered that only the batteries on the vehicle were leaking, and there were no chemicals involved.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
