The body of a cat has been found abandoned in a black sack.
The animal had been wrapped in a tan-coloured towel and sealed into the bag, which was discovered on Dover's Western Heights.
A dog walker found the body of a long-haired dark brown, female cat on a trail on Monday.
RSPCA inspector Kirsten Ormerod has launched an investigation.
She said: “The cat is not microchipped and isn’t wearing a collar or ID tag so we don’t know where she’s come from.
“She doesn’t seem to have any obvious injuries so it’s not clear how or why she’s died.
"The way she’s been dumped here seems to be suspicious so I’d like to speak to anyone who saw the person responsible or who recognises here to get in touch with us.
“Anyone with information can call our appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
The RSPCA has asked for donations to continue rescuing animals and investigating animal cruelty, which can be done via www.rspca.org.uk/covid.
