Deaths of 58 Chinese to be remembered

A SHORT service to remember the 58 Chinese people who died trying to enter Britain three years ago will be held on Dover seafront next month.

It is being organised by the Rev Norman Setchell, who was the minister at St Columba United Reformed Church in Dover at the time of the tragedy.

The service, which will also remember others who have died or risked their lives to enter Britain, will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, June 18, at the junction of Marine Parade and Jubilee Way.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, a wreath will be thrown into the sea. Mr Setchell, who held a service at the port the day after the Chinese were found in the back of a lorry at the Eastern Docks, said he hoped it would become an annual event.
