Plans to build three detached homes with garages in Shepherdswell will be discussed tomorrow night (Thursday).
The scheme to develop land at Upton House, 4 Mill Lane, includes the demolition of existing outbuildings and the creation of vehicular access.
The district’s planning department has received 16 letters in support, and 13 letters against.
Those who oppose the plan fear there will be loss of privacy to the residents of Number 4 and other properties.
They are concerned about the noise of construction machinery, and say existing parking congestion, which impedes the flow of traffic for buses and emergency vehicles, could be worsened.
Some have suggested the development, if agreed, should consist of bungalows or cottage-style starter homes.
Those in support say the plan is a positive move for the village, as it would provide much needed family housing that is ‘aesthetically pleasing’, and it would support local businesses and schools.
They say the homes would be set back with private drives, meaning there would be adequate parking, and cars would no longer be able to park in that part of the road – thus reducing congestion.
The district council offices panning officers’ report says the site is close to a conservation area, and the development could also result in a loss of trees.
But it recommends approval, subject to a list of conditions.
