The explosion of a Second World War bomb in the Calais mines is set to cause some disruption at the French port, but the affect at Dover should be minimal.

The Port of Calais is set to be closed until 2.30pm but the Port of Dover said it will operate as normal and continue to check-in traffic. Ships will sail fully loaded.

People travelling from Dover to Calais can travel and will be diverted away from the port when they reach the other side.

P&O Ferries will waive any cancellations or changes to travel arrangements.

A statement said: "Some traffic is held in Calais but ferries are sailing as normal from Dover, and there is no disruption at Dover.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused for reasons entirely outside of our control."

“We understand that our customers may wish to re-book onto a sailing later that afternoon or change dates completely”.

With limited movements at the port, customers have been told that they can re-book their trip for a later time or change the date free of charge.

The port spokesman added: “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this disruption caused for reasons entirely outside of our control, and hope that this notice allows passengers to plan appropriately”.
