A Dover mum, who has been mourning the loss of her dog after it was attacked by another one, has been inundated with messages of support.

Karen Macdonald, 58, of Lancaster Road, Dover, was walking eight-year-old springer spaniel Petal in Military Road at 10.15am on Thursday, February 19, when it happened.

It is alleged the attacking dog, described as a Staffie-pitbull cross, bit the spaniel’s leg. The spaniel had to be destroyed on the advice of vets.

Since then, Ms Macdonald has received lots of support from residents in Dover.

“There’s been lots of messages of support and people stopping her in the street. It’s nice to know people care.”He daughter, Lisa Webb, said: “Dover seems to be a town of dog lovers.

A man is due to appear in court on Monday, charged with owning a dog dangerously out of control.

Troy Smith, 42, of Folkestone Road, Dover, was charged with assault, affray, violent behaviour at a police station and owning a dog dangerously out of control.

Police told the Mercury the dog is to be destroyed.
