A Dover woman has been ordered to pay £1,816.13 in compensation after being sentenced for benefit fraud.

Anna-Marie Browne, 42, formerly of Oswald Road, pleaded guilty to charges of dishonestly failing to promptly notify a change in circumstances for housing benefit and council tax support.

She also pleaded guilty to making a false representation on her claim form.

She was sentenced yesterday (Tuesday, May 5) at Canterbury Magistrates Court.

A total of £150 in costs and a £60 surcharge will also need to be paid.

Ms Browne had failed to declare that she had been working extra hours and that her earnings had increased.

Due to the change in income, she was overpaid housing benefit of £1,816.13 and council tax support of £194.

Dover District Council said steps will always be taken to recover any over-payment in full.
