The family of missing George Spence, who is feared to have fallen into Dover harbour, have made a fresh plea for help.

Mr Spence, 61, a sailor on the Suffolk Spirit, has not been seen since a night out drinking with shipmates in the town on Monday, April 28.

It was feared Mr Spence, who lives in Lowestoft, Suffolk, may have fallen from the vessel, which was stationed in the Western Docks, next to Dover Cruise Terminal 1.

He was in Dover to do a wreck salvage, but because of bad weather, the ship was docked until it improved.

His sister Angela Roberts, 56, said: “I am following every lead. We will not give up. We will find him.

"We are all a very close-knit family and it’s out of character for George..." - Ms Roberts

“The horrible thing was that on the Friday morning of the week George was reported missing my family was crossing from Dover to Germany.

“I was horrified incase we hit George or saw him.”

The alarm was first raised on the morning of Tuesday, April 29, sparking two Dover RNLI lifeboat searches throughout the day.

Mr Spence has shoulder-length grey hair and is 5ft 1in.

He lives with his wife Jane and 19-year-old step-son Paul.

Ms Roberts said: “George is my big brother.

“We are all a very close-knit family and it’s out of character for George , he normally would have called.”

She said George was famous for diving into the sea for wrecks and was sponsored by businessman and investor Richard Branson in one of his projects.

An investigation was launched by Kent Police, and it is understood officers are still making inquiries.

A spokesman said: “Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact Kent Police on 101.”
