Family seeks answers after large stone was hurled at window

A mother-of-three has spoken of the terrifying moment a large stone was hurled at her window.

Annmarie Carey, 30, of Fulbert Road, was sitting in the living room with her partner John Bamford and her daughter Jade, aged 10, and son Harry, four.

It was 8.30pm on Thursday, September 3 and the lights were dimmed in the house as Mr Bamford was playing a game on his PlayStation.

But the almighty smash left the family hunting for clues as to why someone would vandalise their home.

Ms Carey said: “It’s quite worrying as we were all going to play Monopoly and the table is that end of the room, by the window.

“But it was getting late and we decided to do it another night.

The window was double glazed and the stone only smashed the outside panel, which prevented it from hitting anyone.

Her eldest daughter Jasmin, 13, was upstairs in her room when the incident it happened.

“My eldest was worried about people being able to get in and Jade was scared someone will smash a window while we were sleeping,” Ms Carey said.

When looking for evidence, the back gate was found open, but it was not known if one of the children had forgotten to shut it earlier that day.

The police were unable to pursue inquiries because of the lack of evidence, Ms Carey said.

All that was left was a cracked window with no answers as to how it happened.

The window has now been boarded up by Dover District Council and it could be up to three weeks before a replacement is installed.

Ms Carey said the repairman pointed out that it was a stone or rock of some sort that caused the window to shatter.

She said: “Our house has 6ft fences all around.Whether it was teenagers and they didn’t mean for it to break and scarpered when it had happened or whether it was on purpose we don’t know.

“Fortunately, we’re not easily frightened, but I am very angry about it because it could have been so much worse and we have children in this house.”
