Firefighters were called to George Street, Dover last night after a fire spread to a building containing flats.
The blaze had spread from an outbuilding to a nearby three-storey building containing flats, and caused heavy smoke-logging in communal areas of the property.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with water jets, and used a ventilation fan to clear smoke.
All occupants of the flats were accounted for, and there were no casualties.
Police and ambulances attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
